My name is Zhenghua Xia. I am a 10 years old pianist. My friends and I are a group of children who are passionate about music, wish to share and spread joy through the notes of love.
Today, we are here to support the Child Life Program. The Child Life Program is an essential part of a sick child's treatment and recovery in the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. Whenever someone, especially a child, is exposed to a new environment, they may feel unsettling and even frightened. In the program, specialists help patients adapt to a medical environment and take their minds off of medical problems. How, you may wonder. Well, it's simple, Child Life activity coordinators encourage children to do the most important thing; play. Children need to play to be able to find their creativity, to interact with others, and to learn about the world. Children in the program have a chance to be just kids. In the program, children also indulge in activities that encourage self-expression. These activities consist of drawing, writing poems, and sharing stories. Children also go through hands-on medical play, which calms their anxiety around medical equipment and blood. Although the Child Life services are essential and highly beneficial, they are not backed up by an insurance company. Hence, the program must rely on donations to pay for the equipment for activities.
So please, help these children by donating or even fundraising. Any amount, great or small, will be greatly appreciated and will help us create hope and build healthier futures for the families of Southern California and beyond. Thank you for your generosity!
