Please support the CHLA Dog Therapy Program!!
Many of you are aware that I started volunteering at CHLA with Bruce in 2006. Bobbi came along in 2007 and she started to visit as well. I currently have Bonner, Gordon & Willow and they volunteer weekly at CHLA. We have seen thousands of patients, family members and CHLA employees bringing smiles and helping with pain management and rehabilitation.
On April 11th CHLA celebrated a streak of having at least one therapy dog on the CHLA campus every day for the last three years. This was an amazing feat and all our volunteers, people and dog alike, are determined to keep the streak going well past the three-year mark!!
There are currently 125 dogs and 126 humans in the program as of today. In 2017, we welcomed 46 new teams, said goodbye to 30 teams, and renewed 37 teams here at CHLA. On average 1155 patients per month receive dog therapy visits at their bedside, in the rehab gym, dialysis or infusion centers. Between interactions with families/visitors, staff, and attendees at special events, our therapy dogs directly reached 73,000 people last year.
Your donation will help cover the costs of evaluations, orientations, extensive personalized training, scheduling, special request honoring, special event participation, scarves, badges, collars and leashes for every dog, polo shirts and aprons for every human, trading cards for every dog, hand sanitizer, reimbursement towards annual vet exams and therapy team re-registration fees, and many other things essential to making it safe and rewarding to have a robust dog therapy program for the CHLA community.
Please help me reach my goal to raise $12,500 for the CHLA Dog Therapy Program. Willow and I will be walking with my friend Mckenna Fulton. Mckenna is only eleven years old but has spent countless hours raising money for the Dog Therapy program and helps us with testing and renewals!
Please consider supporting the program. There is a link below to donate.
Many thanks!! Dorothy and all the CHLA dog therapy teams.
