Love for Child Life!
Both Graham and Harriet have been patients (nothing serious, thankfully) here so we have seen (and felt) how the best medical care includes programs like Child Life supporting the emotional needs of patients, sibs and parents too!We are excited to be part of the inaugural Walk L.A. in support the incredible Child Life program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
Graham explains "When my sister had her tonsils out, she got to see what was going to happen and play it out with a doll and that made her experience much better. Child Life makes positive fun in the hospital. It's much more than toys and playing, it's the element of kids being kids so its less scary for them.
Recalling the Child Life specialists who helped her, Harried said "When I was nervous about the IV, Doug helped me. Then when I hit my head playing soccer I met Sonia in the Emergency Department and she showed me the CT scanner so I would know to hold still. Sonia made me laugh and Doug was so kind."
We want to honor the impact of Doug and Sonia and the whole Child Life team so that kids are less scared and can have positive experiences even when they are really sick or hurt.
Graham has made a personal commitment as one of 300 Junior Ambassadors of CHLA to raise $1,000 or more this summer.
We hope you'll consider a tax-deductible gift toward our goal.
Any amount, great or small, will support Child Life by stocking playrooms with toys and games and incredible staff.
We thank you for your support!
