Meghan's Fundraising Page for Child Life!
Welcome to my Walk L.A. page! I am excited to be part of the inaugural Walk L.A. in support of the mission of Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
More children receive care from CHLA than any other hospital in the region—and often CHLA comes to the rescue for children when other hospitals run out of medical options for their care. Walk LA is the walk that supports the only hospital solely dedicated to the health of children in Los Angeles.
I am one of the Child Life Specialists at CHLA and will be raising money for the Child Life Department! For those unfamiliar with Child Life, we are a group of highly-trained clinical professionals who provide psychosocial support to patients and families at the hospital. We help infants, children, adolescents, and families cope with the uncertainty of acute and chronic illness, injury, trauma, disability, loss, and bereavement. We provide evidence-based, developmentally appropriate interventions including therapeutic play, medical play, preparation and support for procedures, and diagnosis education in order to reduce fear, anxiety, and pain. We focus on providing individually tailored, one-on-one care for patients and work closely with the multidisciplinary team that includes physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, etc. Within our department, we also have Activity Coordinators who run our playrooms and teen lounge in order to provide developmentally appropriate therapeutic activities for patients and their siblings. They help ensure the patients at CHLA do their most important job - to play! Together, our department helps to create a safe haven for patients and families to cope with the stress and anxiety related to hospitalization and health care experiences.
I hope you’ll join me at the walk and help support my fundraising efforts with a donation to Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Your tax-deductible gift will make a difference in the lives of many young patients and their families. Any amount, great or small, will be greatly appreciated and will help us create hope and build healthier futures for the families of Southern California and beyond.
